Florida: Siesta Key Beach and Village

It was a hot and humid July day along the west coast of Florida. A beach day along the Gulf of Mexico was definitely in order. The choice was Siesta Key Beach in Sarasota.

Siesta Key Beach, Florida

It should not even have been up for debate. Sitting on a barrier island within the city of Sarasota, Siesta Key Beach is constantly rated among the best beaches in Florida, the United States and is known around the world.

Siesta Key Beach, Florida, white sand

When people mention Siesta Key they usually mention the sand. The powdery white sand was soft to walk on and cool to the touch. I was told the sand never gets hot which is amazing considering it’s hot there year round.

Siesta Key Beach, Florida, colorful umbrellas

There were people scattered throughout the beach and sand with colorful umbrellas propped up everywhere.

Siesta Key Beach, Florida, water

Like a lot of tropical areas and in Florida going into the Gulf Coast water was like taking a bath, very warm and you could still feel the soft sand as you ventured further and further into the clear, blue water. The waves were minimal, so people of all ages were having fun. There were people jogging and walking their bikes right where the water meets the sand too.

What is amazing about Siesta Key is that it is a public beach meaning it is free, just get there early if you want to grab a close parking spot.

Siesta Key Village, Florida

After relaxing in the water and laying out in the sun, maybe getting a little too much color :), it was time to checkout Siesta Key Village. The village right off the beach contains many eating and seafood opportunities as well as several souvenir shops.

Siesta Key Oyster Bar was the place of choice for eats. Sitting outside they offer  Margarita pitchers, tropical drinks and blowing fans to cool everyone off. They have several delicious appetizers including Chesapeake Bay Crab Cakes and Pork Pot Stickers.

A great day at Siesta Beach and Village. I’m still thinking about the sand. If you’re in Florida and looking for the perfect beach in a tropical or Caribbean setting this definitely is a place you need to get to. Check out the rest of my photos from the day trip here.

What is your favorite beach in Florida or in a tropical area? What beach would you recommend based on just on the water and sand alone?

  1. Oh what a sweet set of photos. I’m gesnuisg that there isn’t much climbing on the shoulders anymore. I sort of miss that age, but … my back and neck don’t! Hope you had a great time in Florida!

    • Thank you! One great photo opportunity there after another. Great food too. Still can’t believe how white the sand is and that it never gets hot.
