Atlanta: The Georgia Aquarium

When people think of Atlanta now days, the Georgia Aquarium is one of the first things that comes to mind. Opened since 2005, the Georgia Aquarium is the world’s largest aquarium with more than 10 million gallons of water. It’s a part of Pemberton Place in downtown Atlanta alongside the World of Coca-Cola, right by Centennial Olympic Park.

It was a nice summer day on the weekend, so there were long lines to get in and huge crowds at every exhibit.

But once we made our way up to the front, we were in awe. The way they set up the tanks and the fish and other sea creatures in them are out of this world.

Two staples of a great aquarium experience in my book, are seeing sea otters and penguins. You’ll find both in the Cold Water Quest exhibit. When seeing the penguins, there is a tunnel and pop-up window within the exhibit, so you can get up close and personal.

Checking out all the exhibits and galleries, we came upon this turtle just swimming around, looking like they’re having a great time.

Everyone had their phones and cameras out just capturing the moment with amazing backdrops behind. Below is in the Tropical Diver exhibit.

The Ocean Voyager exhibit features the Georgia Aquarium Tunnel. We took turns walking and standing in the tunnel watching saw fish, manta rays, whale sharks and thousands of other fish swim right by and above us. It’s the largest aquarium tank in the world with 6.3 million gallons of saltwater. We watched several scuba divers swim in the tank. No where else in the world provides this kind of opportunity. You can also snorkel.

Did not have a chance to checkout the recently added Dolphin Tales exhibit. That will be the first stop next time. Checkout the Georgia Aquarium website for more information on all the exhibits and activities that go on, images, video cams and more. Also, checkout the other photos from my time there.

Have you ever been to the Georgia Aquarium? If so what was your favorite part? What other aquariums would you recommend to check out?

  1. Love the aquarium…one of my favorite places, period.

  2. The Georgia Aquarium is quite incredible, I agree!

    • Yes it is, especially when your walking through the Ocean Voyager. It looks like it could be a tunnel at the bottom of the ocean. 🙂
