My Travel Bucket List.

Happy 2012 everyone! I reflected on 2011 in a previous post and thought to myself, where do I want to go and what are my goals for travels this upcoming year and beyond.

Joining Travel Bucket List Wednesday’s (checkout hashtag #TravelBL on Twitter) has inspired me to think about future travels as well and to come up with my own travel bucket list.

Well without further ado (not including the random day-trips):

  1. Experience a lot more of what New Zealand has to offer, starting with Wellington and the Fiords (Milford and Doubtful Sound).
  2. Visit places significant to my family history, local and far.
  3. Hawaii and the North Shore.
  4. Wet zorbing.
  5. Climb the Harbour Bridge in Sydney.
  6. Visit and snorkel the Great Barrier Reef in Australia.
  7. Australia’s Manly Beach.
  8. Conquer the “Big Al” on the Fergburger menu in Queenstown, New Zealand.
  9. Restaurant hopping in Chicago consuming a deep-dish pizza slice at each.
  10. Bounce from place-to-place in New Zealand trying out iced chocolates and frites and aioli.
  11. Enjoy a romantic carriage ride in both a small-town and a big city during the holidays.
  12. Visit and work from every non-chain coffee house in the Detroit and Atlanta areas.
  13. Explore the home towns, Detroit and Atlanta, in general a lot more in-depth, finding lots of hidden gems.
  14. Attend a home baseball game of all 30 Major League Baseball teams. At 9 so far. Got work to do.
  15. Cruise around Great Britain (Scotland, Ireland, England, Wales, Northern Ireland) doing all the touristy things, cruising the countryside and seeing anything and everything historic.
  16. Have an Irish coffee in a small-town in Ireland on a cool morning day.
  17. Attend Wimbledon and the British Open.
  18. Travel the entire length of I-75 (almost accomplished), Route 66, The Road to Nowhere and the Pacific Coast highway (off to a good start).
  19. Drive from Miami through the Florida Keys to Key West.
  20. Consume a bowl of New England Clam Chowder from as many locales in Cape Cod as possible as an adult. A favorite childhood memory.
  21. Take an Alaskan and Caribbean/tropical cruise.
  22. Capture Pittsburgh at night on a riverboat cruise and from up-top the Duquesne Incline (been there during the day several times).
  23. Complete all the Great Lake circle tours and checkout every lighthouse along the way.
  24. Capture pictures of all 50 welcome-to United States state signs. Rats, would be a lot further along on this if took pictures in my younger years haha.
  25. Get to Machu Picchu in Peru.
  26. Try a Philly cheese steak in Philadelphia.
  27. Take a hot air balloon ride in San Francisco, Napa Valley and Sonoma. Winery hop.
  28. Return to Disneyland, Disney World and get to every theme park in sight.
  29. Spend part of a holiday season enjoying Rockefeller Center, Central Park, Times Square on NYE and everything else New York City has to offer.
  30. Attend a Denver Broncos home game (my favorite professional sports team). Been to a lot of road games.
  31. Not being as specific attend as many food festival and taste fests as possible and…
  32. Go up-top the tallest buildings in as many big cities as possible to capture the views from above and…
  33. Visit as many outdoor food markets as possible.

That is my bucket list. I’m sure I will add, remove and hopefully cross-off a few things on the list as time goes on. As always I hope to see everyone out on the open road.

On the open road. Between Lake Tekapo and Mount Cook Village in New Zealand.

What is at the top of your bucket list for the upcoming year or beyond?

  1. Great list! 🙂 This year I really, really, really want to visit Tasmania. 🙂

    • Thank you! I hope you get there. 🙂 Have a friend who’s spent time in Tasmania, heard it’s beautiful. Gotta get there one day myself. 🙂

  2. I like your list. Chicago deep dish pizza slices are awesome, but huge! Do you have a number in mind you would like to have on your hop? I have done some of these items–Philly cheese steaks are so good. I want to hike to Machu Picchu, Good luck.

    • Thank you! Chicago deep dish pizza, great indeed! Have gotten suggestions on countless places to check out. Was at Gino’s East in the city actually the other day. 🙂 If I could get by the slice at each, thinking six in one day.

  3. No Asian countries? I thought you like pastries from Taiwan and BBQ from Korea!

    • Love both of those things and would love to get to some places in Asia! 🙂 Can’t wait for more Korean BBQ. I’ll be actively adding, removing and crossing things (hopefully) off the list.

  4. Stumbled on your list here…We have a lot of common goals. #17 especially!

    • My favorite major tournaments in tennis and golf. Such history and tradition. Ideally I would try to attend the British Open when it’s at the Old Course in St. Andrews, the home of golf. That would be unreal.

  5. One of my travel dreams is train at a Muay Thai gym in Thailand. If you need adventure partner for 25, let me know. I would love to visit Machu Picchu

    • Hope you make it to Thailand and a gym there. I hear it’s a beautiful country. Hope to get Machu Picchu into the travel schedule someday. It’d be even more amazing to explore with others!
