A Michigan Autumn Brings…

Autumn is in full swing in Michigan and the Midwest. A time to really have the camera and phone on standby, capturing the stunning scenes of Fall. It dawned on me. What does a Michigan Autumn bring? Before anything else, it brings pumpkins!

Who’s ready for some pumpkin carving, seeds, pie, bread and spiced lattes?! Yum. 🙂 In back down below you’ll see bales of hay, another staple of the season.

You can find pumpkins everywhere this time of year, but nothing is better than getting one right where they are grown, at the pumpkin patch. Find that special one for you out in the field. Maybe you’ll see Linus waiting for The Great Pumpkin. I loved watching “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” this time of year growing up. This is the pumpkin patch at Westview Orchards in Washington Township.

A Michigan autumn brings gourds. A gourd is a fleshy fruit with a hard outer skin, used by many this time of year as decorative ornaments. You’ll find them at stores and markets at the same rate you do pumpkins. These gourds are from the Farmers’ Market in Kerrytown in Ann Arbor.

Along with gourds, you’ll find bags and bags of apples of all kinds like these at Franklin Cider Mill in the village of Franklin.

Apples come from apple orchards and along with cider mills, are frequent spots for many on the weekends as it gets colder and the leaves start to change. Some more shots from Westview Orchards.

All these people going to cider mills. What are they going to drink and eat? Oh yeah, seeing all those apples makes sense now. You’ll see apple cider…

…and donuts! Cinnamon, powdered sugar, spiced or plain. they are usually homemade and so-so good. Both the cider and donuts pictured are from Franklin Cider Mill.

You’ll find scarecrows about like these in downtown Plymouth.

The first thing though that you’ll notice about a Michigan and Midwest Autumn is the changing of leaves colors.

Autumn also brings spiked cider, Halloween, haunted houses and so much more goodness. What does the Autumn season bring for you?

  1. Yes, donuts, cider and pumpkin patches! Fall in the Midwest is beautiful.

    • Too many donuts and too much cider consumed recently though haha. Definitely, though the wind and cold air has taken all the colorful leaves away. 😦 Til next year!

  2. I’ve never seen so many pumpkins! I’ve still got so much of the States to see…autumn is obviously the time to visit. One day….

    • Yes yes, hope you can visit during Autumn in the Midwest or along the East Coast some day. It’s beautiful this time of year. Lot’s of pumpkins around and always on the lookout for pumpkin goodies too.

  3. Some great photos! I do love Fall and we do it well here in the Midwest. I could go for some cider donuts, too 🙂

  4. A perfect post to be reading while enjoying my pumpkin spice latte. Sad that fall is over now for the most part. I may take a trip south to see if I can find Autumn again.

    • Have had many of those drinks, lot’s of peppermint ones too ahead if sure. 🙂 Hope to see color when the ATL upcoming! Have to look at a Fall foilage map.

  5. I drive by that Newburgh Lake in Livonia everyday on my day home. I guess I should stop and appreciate it more daily 🙂

    • Always a nice spot because of all the greenery in the warmer months and the colorful leaves in the Fall. Found several nice scenic views that day along Hines Drive, usually involving the water. 🙂

  6. Wooooow… so many pumpkins!!! :O
