The South Haven Lakeshore By Day.

Up until now I had only been in South Haven, Michigan around sunset. This always made for beautiful and romantic views looking west out into Lake Michigan. On a recent day road trip though I set out to see what the area looked like during the day with the sun shining.

I made the trek towards the shoreline and South Beach just outside of downtown. A recommended place to capture the scene is from up in the hills overlooking everything on Monroe Boulevard. It was time to get out on the open path towards the edge of the hill soon seeing…

…the dunes, brush, beach and the blue, vast Lake Michigan. Off in the distance sat the pier and South Haven South Pierhead Light.

I found myself capturing all of the same photos as before except to sunny skies and daylight. It was great getting a different perspective seeing more of the color of the sand, lighthouse and water. When here at sunset the sky always seems to dominate color-wise. 🙂

Anyone for a romantic picnic with those views on the sand and sometimes even in the lakes waters?!

Back up top the hill, you’ll find additional romantic opportunities on the park benches lining the street.

It was now time to walk the pier, under and along the catwalk towards the red lighthouse.

On the pier I continuously looking forward and behind. There is just something about walking and hanging out along the lake, with the sound of the water that relaxes you. Not seeing land on the other side makes me think I’m in a place far-far away along the ocean. 🙂

It was a fun afternoon checking out the South Haven lakeshore for the first time by day. Who knows what time of day, the year and what the weather will be like next time I come this way. Maybe it will give me an additional perspective of this scenic spot.

Checkout the post about my time here at sunset, also detailing more information about the lighthouse, catwalk and area: A Lake Michigan Lighthouse and Sunset in South Haven.

What beaches and town shorelines would you recommend checking out along Lake Michigan? Anywhere?

  1. Weko Beach in Bridgman MI is beautiful! The Beach Town Grill is located in the Weko Beach House. There is a campground, stairs built into the dunes with great views! As well as the state park just down the road on Red Arrow Hwy. From South Haven just head down 94 towards Chicago Exit #16. Silver Beach in St. Joseph is beautiful as well!

    • Thanks for the tips! Been to St. Joseph and Tisconia Park across the way, will have to check out that park and beach sometimes. Brigdman and you guys too. Need to do a roadie South Haven southward. 🙂

  2. Did I mention we serve Coffee? I just read your coffee posts and loved them. I have been a barista at 4 different coffee shops. I am now promoting for Classic Catering and Events as well as The Beach Town Grill and I thought you’d like to know we serve Starbucks Coffee.

However if you like to check out other coffee shops you would adore, Caffe Tosi in St. Joseph, MI (they serve Illy Coffee) which is another cute beach town right down Red Arrow Hwy from Weko Beach.

If you head down in the opposite direction of St. Joseph you’ll get to New Buffalo Beach.

A new coffee shop is opening in Sawyer MI (just before you get to New Buffalo) across from Greenbush Brewing (great brew pub) called Infusco Coffee and it is locally roasted. Check out my blog and facebook pages I share a lot about the local community, I think you’d enjoy visiting our area. So many beach towns and coffee shops! I love Caribou coffee too!

    • Wow, thank you for all the great tips of coffee, beaches, shops and more along Lake Michigan! Looks like I have a lot more java drinking to do, all to scenic views. 🙂 Would definitely check out your guys coffee. Cheers!

  3. I have lived in Michigan all my life and not been to half the places you have on your blog. I’ll have to start planning some day trips to get to know my state more. Your photos are beautiful.

    • Thank you Tilly! Michigan is such a beautiful state, have a lot more to explore myself. Glad I could help in showing off The Mitten, amazing what you can see on just day drives!

  4. I love Lake Michigan dunes and beaches. I definitely need to make it to Nordhouse or Sleeping Bear sometime this summer.

    • Those are two great spots, need to explore those more in-depth. Love hanging around the dunes and coastline at Ludington State Park just south of there. Look forward to hanging more along Lake Michigan in the summer months.
