Out on the Open Kea Point Trail in New Zealand.

Kea Point trail is an hour trek through the countryside from Mount Cook Village on the South Island of New Zealand. It ends at a platform from which you can get great views of Mount Cook (Aoraki), the tallest mountain in the country, and several other mountain peaks.

I wrote about it and my times at Mount Cook Village in a previous post: A Few Hours in Mount Cook Village. Below are some additional photos from my time on the trail, along with some blown up shots from my original post. The hike provided some of the best scenery I’ve seen in New Zealand.

  1. Love NZ and love your pix!

  2. Gorgeous photos! I would love to do this one day.

    • Thank you Erin. Hope you have a chance too. A short but fun and scenic trek. Mount Cook Village where this trail starts is a great place to rest, set up camp for the night.

  3. So beautiful! I wanna go back to New Zealand ㅠㅠ

  4. Glad you enjoyed the walk. It’s a shame that’s all you had time to do there because in my opinion it is the least scenic of the scenic hikes in that area. As for other good walks in NZ there are far too many to mention!

Here are the hikes I’ve done in that area & if you scroll around my hiking section there are plenty of other good hikes in NZ which are all worth doing. One of the many benefits of living here 🙂

    • Yeah we just stayed there over night. I went on the hike just after sunrise before we left. We were on our way to Queenstown.

Before going there did manage to spend a little time at nearby Lake Tekapo which was beautiful and scenic too. Will take a look at the hikes on your site. 🙂 Too much to do in New Zealand, too little time. 🙂

  5. These photos look amazing. New Zealand is definitely on my bucket list! thanks for following my blog 🙂

    • Thank you! No problem, thanks for coming to check put my blog as well. Hope you can cross that item off your bucket list soon. 🙂

  6. New Zealand is one of my favourite places, I wish I’d taken the time to do alot more hiking.
