I’ve written about New Zealand. I’ve talked about my wanderlust. If you were to combine the two, the spot that brings out the wanderlust in me in NZ is Lake Hawea on the South Island.
This glacial lake just outside Wanaka is a deep blue and crystal in color and mountains serve as its backdrop. It makes for a scenic day trip from Wanaka and Queenstown with plenty of outdoor fun options.
I thought Iโd share some larger versions of photos I took and used in my original Lake Hawea post from a few years back, plus some additional ones. I took them at the Lookout Point! on State Highway 6 along the western shoreline.
Do you have a spot in New Zealand or anywhere else that takes your wanderlust to the next level?
God it’s so beautiful. I was so ready to leave NZ a few months ago and now I’m crying inside every time I realise I’m not there anymore!!
I miss NZ a lot too, think about it every day. Hope to get back very soon! Unreal how beautiful it is from top to bottom.
Absolutely beautiful. No wonder it’s a favorite spot for you.
Thank you! Spent a lot of time just staring out into the lake to just soak all the beauty in. ๐
I love that whole region. It is one of many favourite parts of the country. I think it is impossible to take a bad photograph there.
Definitely agree, the camera was always out and ready when in Wanaka, around Lake Hawea and then when headed northward towards the West Coast.
Beautiful pictures. I love Kaikoura on the South Island.
Thank you!!! Haven’t been to that part of NZ. Hope to road trip north out of Christchurch to that neck of the woods sometime.
It looks so beautiful there. It’s still on bucket list to go to NZ
It is even more beautiful to see up close. Hope you have a chance to get there. ๐ ๐
Stunning photos! Looking forward to planning a trip here
Thank you Tiff! Hope you can. The scenery and backdrops wow. Such a peaceful and beautiful place. ๐
So much beauty packed into a relatively small country. It’s almost a good thing Aotearoa is clear around on the opposite side of the planet. ๐
No doubt, amazing the landscape of New Zealand and how you can experience so many different kinds in such a short distance. I hear you on that, though if it was closer could be there more often. ๐
That lake looks beautiful! Sad to have missed it on my trip to NZ a few years back. Hoping to head back one day though so I’ll keep an eye out for this!
It’s even more beautiful up close. Hope you do have a chance to get back to New Zealand and be able to check this out. It would make for a great daytrip if spending time in Wanaka and Queenstown. ๐
Moke Lake did that to me! In Queenstown
Cool beans! Never been to, just looked it up, looks very scenic. So many beautiful spots in-and-around Queenstown. Cheers!
Amazing pictures. Looks like a beautiful place. Places with water are always extra special.
Thank you Sarah! It is.. Would be one of the places I would tell anyone visiting New Zealand to get to. ๐ Agree with you in regards to the water. Most of my favorite cities/areas seem to have beautiful shoreline.
