An Atlanta Autumn Stroll Through Piedmont Park.

The time to see the colors of Fall usually stretches well into November in the Deep South. Piedmont Park in the heart of Midtown Atlanta, Georgia was no exception.

Checkout the Autumn colors to expect when taking a stroll through one of the biggest city parks around. Walking alongside Lake Clara Meer and the Active Oval is highly recommended. Atlanta’s Midtown and Downtown skylines will be in view for a lot of the ride. Well without further ado.

What big city parks would you recommend checking out in Autumn?

The Fallen Autumn Goodness of Findlay, Ohio.

Early November in Ohio and the Midwest means the temperatures are more winter than summer-like. The clouds seem to be taking over more than the sun. It’s getting dark way to early and lasting way to long. The peak Autumn color has passed, with more leaves having fallen to the ground then left on the trees.

Keeping that last point in mind my Findlay park exploration started out on the leafy open road along the Findlay Reservoir…

…and onto the leaf covered bike paths, bridges and horse trails of Riverbend Recreation Area. You’ll find floodplain, forest, corn stalks and farmland as you make your way through the park.

Surprise, surprise. If you roam around long enough, good things will happen. 🙂 I found full color still up in the air of a few trees.

It was windy that morning, so leaves were flying off, though still keeping their beauty as they sit on the ground.

The red leafed tree with all its leaves quickly falling to the ground really caught the eye. What immediately came into to my head being a traveler was the red colors that make up the Office of TourismOhio logo.

I put my thinking cap on, kneeled to the ground and became for moment in time an Autumn artist. Hi Ohio! Hi DiscoverOhio! 🙂

The open road brought me next to Riverside Park, the oldest park in the area. It was time to hang out along the Blanchard River which flows through the heart of Findlay.

A different park brought different colors on the ground, mainly bright yellow and orange.

I felt like a kid working my way through huge pile after huge pile of leaves.

The piles are going to get even bigger with these trees really fighting the temperatures and changing of the seasons.

In general this time of year is a photographers dream even when there is just a speck of color left like here further along the Blanchard River.

Now roaming around the countryside of Hancock County just west of Findlay, I randomly came up to Litzenberg Memorial Woods and its 110 acres of wooded forest preserve and meadow. More bike paths, horse trails and bridges covered in fallen Autumn goodness…

The early darkness of the season ended my late Autumn day exploration. The leaves of the Midwest, Ohio and Findlay are holding onto the trees with everything they have. Even if they are not on the trees anymore there is always the fallen Autumn goodness you can still check out.

The parks in-and-around Findlay and Hancock County are definitely worth a walk in Autumn or any time of the year if your ever driving along I-75 in northern Ohio.

Are there any spots around home or in your travels that you would recommend checking out the late Autumn and leaf scene?

Ann Arbor: Hanging with the Autumn Leaves at Parker Mill.

The annual Fall foliage has reached its peak in many parts of the Midwestern United States, Ann Arbor in Michigan being no exception. Parker Mill County Park on the east-end of town got most of my attention. Every few days at different times of the day I went to hangout in the park and along Fleming Creek to capture the Autumn leaves.

Decided to give some love to the fallen leaves and hangout with them. 🙂 Off in the distance and within the park is the historic Parker Mill Grist Mill which gets to see this scene every year.

Where are some memorable spots that you captured and hung out with the Fall colors?

Out on the Open Michigan Autumn Dirt Road.

Every year, around this same time, I make the trek over to Huron Meadows Metropark in Brighton, Michigan. Each time I head out onto the open dirt road, with oak-hickory forest on either side, to capture Autumn and the changing of the colors. This multi-mile stretch of road leads to the main parking area and Huron River on the south end of the park.

The variety of Fall colors, the remote feel, being able to see what lies way ahead, I don’t know what it is about this stretch of road. It’s just one of those places that I find myself compelled to return to every year. Well without further ado.

If you get off the dirt road and head into the woods this time of year, this is what awaits! 🙂

Is there a place you return to every Autumn to capture and soak in the colors of the season?

A First Taste of Autumn Color in Ohio.

The calendar has flipped to October. Cooler air has definitely taken hold in Ohio, the Midwest and around the Great Lakes. With that the color green is being replaced all around by red, yellow, orange and the other colors of Fall.

My first taste of Autumn color came while walking the meadow trails of Wildwood Preserve Metropark in Toledo.

The colors of Autumn also started dotting the landscape as I walked in Side Cut Metropark and along the Maumee River in Maumee.

A couple of small waterfalls and the colors of the season make for a scenic backdrop. It looks like I stumbled upon an upcoming wedding.
