A Vegas Hash House A Go Go Breakfast & Coffee

Everything is bigger and better in Vegas right? A lot of things are over the top. This certainly included the Hash House A Go Go breakfast and coffee two friends and I experienced recently. You would find none of us complaining!

Hash House A Go Go has several locations in-and-around Las Vegas. We found ourselves on an early weekday morning at their spot within The LINQ Hotel & Casino.

Before the food comas would commence, coffee was ordered. Specialty coffee is not hard to find along the Strip with a Starbucks every where you look. A lot of the hotels have a shop of their own as well, pouring out specialty and basic coffee drinks.

Well Hash House A Go Go cranks that up a notch. I ordered a Frosted Mint latte which came topped with a whole can of whipped cream (I kid, or am I?).

One of my friends ordered a Cinnamon Roll A Go Go Latte, which I could have easily consumed in addition to mine. That presentation!

I had chicken and waffles on the mind for quite some time, so when it came to the menu I only glanced for a few seconds. Looking around the packed restaurant and seeing lots of people enjoying their signature dish reinforced my decision. The Hash House A Go Go Sage Fried Chicken and Waffles it is.

Two sage fried chicken breakfasts sat on my tower of hardwood smoked bacon filled waffles. You heard that right, bacon, bacon, and bacon! It was topped with leaks and a maple syrup reduction. Well it was time to dive in.

Hash House A Go Go serves their large then life comfort food 24 hours a day. One of my friends ordered “a” pancake that could have probably filled up the three of us by itself. What was amazing is that he considered ordering a second one. We might still all be there if that was the case.

The other enjoyed some biscuits and gravy, eggs, mashed potatoes and other breakfast goodness.

We all discussed something on the menu that wasn’t even ordered, the “O’Hare of the dog” which was a 24 oz Budweiser in a bag and side of bacon. It must be popular.

Between the three of us, there was enough food for a small army. None of us came close to finishing, all getting full before setting off on the Las Vegas day. Delicious.

Besides Vegas, Hash House A Go Go has locations in San Diego, Orlando, Chicago, Connecticut and Texas. I’m sure I will find myself back at a Vegas location when in town next. Maybe to experience their brunch, lunch and dinner offerings.

Where else would your recommend grabbing breakfast in Las Vegas?

Being a Foodie, Celebrity Cruise Style!

I’ve been a foodie at home, while road tripping and abroad. I’ve always been a foodie on land, well that was until we went on an Alaskan Celebrity Cruise this past summer. On a Celebrity Cruise, like others, you have the option to formally dine every evening on the ship. We took full advantage.

Below was just a sample of what I consumed at dinner the seven nights abroad the Celebrity Solstice. You name it I probably had it. The best part was that it was all-inclusive. I could have ordered the entire menu and they would have brought it to me. I did in fact order at least two appetizers, entrées and desserts most evenings. 🙂

Frog legs? They could have told me it was chicken and I would have believed them.

Oh I forget to mention the soup. I choose to start every meal with a bowl of French Onion covered in layers of cheese. 🙂

The presentation was outstanding. The wait staff was extremely knowledge making suggestions every step along the way. If you didn’t like something they would take it back and bring you something else quickly. Because of that I tried lots new things on the cruise, like raw scallops. Definitely prefer the cooked one sitting next to the lamb chop below.

Sometimes I didn’t order multiple things off the menu, but instead two of the same dish. Two Thanksgiving Day meals please!

I don’t know where I found the room to eat it all. I hadn’t even mentioned the continuous buffet they had going on morning, noon and night. Wound up in the buffet lines mostly in the early morning hours to load up on breakfast food. Poached eggs, omelets, corned beef and lots of bacon every morning sitting at the stern of the boat, perfect!

Being around the main dining area at dinner on the Celebrity Solstice resulted in so much good food being brought to the table with so little time to eat it all. 🙂

Have you ever been on cruise? If so, what was your eating philosophy?

#ElCafeDe2013: 45 South Cafe in Georgia.

The year in coffee, #ElCafeDe2013, brought me back to what is fast becoming a favorite spot, 45 South Cafe in historic downtown Norcross, Georgia.

It definitely is a cool gathering place and…

You can also sit outside on a screened in patio.

You’ll find a full schedule of live music and entertainment in the evenings. The visit today was early and for coffee (of course) and their homemade breakfast Later in the day they offer a selection of beer and wine as well.

It’s white chocolate mocha time!

On a previous visit the drink of choice was a large latte which definitely hit the spot.

Another coffeeshop/cafe, another cream/sugar station to check out.

It’s not just the coffee (caffeine) that gets me coming back, but the aforementioned homemade breakfast as well. Checkout the Fast 45 Breakfast. Scrambled eggs, chicken sausage, a biscuit and grits.

You actually have a choice of grits or home fried potatoes. I wound up saying both and doing a taste test of sorts. Which would you prefer?

45 South Cafe, Norcross, Georgia

Based on what I ordered on my most recent stop there, you can guess my answer. 🙂 I did the Build A Breakfast getting home fried potatoes, sunny-side up eggs and a biscuit. Delicious! The customer service is always friendly and attentive.

I’ll definitely be back to this gem for coffee and breakfast when in the area. You throw great breakfast on top of great coffee. Perfect!

Gotta go. Lots for eats to discover out on the open road. What food and drinks do you gravitate towards when dining out at home and in your travels?

Ann Arbor: A Zingerman’s Breakfast Experience.

It was an early morning and I was thinking Ann Arbor to grab some coffee. Breakfast food was also on the mind. While in-route Zingerman’s Roadhouse came to mind. It’s a place I’d been to many times before, mostly for cocktails and dinner and always had amazing experiences. It was time to take-in their breakfast experience.

I arrived at my destination on the west side of town. The Roadhouse, which open in 2003, is one of several Zingerman’s businesses in the area which date back to the early 80’s. There is also a deli and creamery among other places.

Following the signs to breakfast.

I found myself a spot to sit. It was 7 am so coffee definitely was in order.

Zingerman's Roadhouse, Ann Arbor, Michigan

A cup of Roadhouse Joe quickly made its way to my table.

For breakfast I decided on the American Breakfast. Scrambled eggs with peppers and 2-year Vermont cheddar. It came with country sausage, sourdough bread and strawberry preserve and breakfast potatoes. Everything is homemade. Not pictured is the freshly squeezed orange juice they gave me a sample of.

I found myself eating the preserves sans the bread. I wanted to be like Joey Tribbiani and dive into lots of jam, thinking of Monica’s jam plan in Friends. So good!

Zingerman's Roadhouse, Ann Arbor, Michigan, breakfast

Along for the ride from left to right behind the breakfast was their version of Frank’s Red Hot Sauce, the locally made Clancy’s Fancy Hot Sauce and the well-known McIlhenny Tabasco Pepper Sauce. I’m not a fan of hot sauces, but took a stab at each. Not to bad. I mostly ate the food without sauce to get the full flavor.

They must really known me haha. They kept my Roadhouse Joe mug constantly full. In fact, when I thought I was going to get the bill they brought me a to-go cup filled with it and a hot, right out of the oven doughnut topped with muscovado brown sugar. What a nice surprise.

Gotta get an up close shot of the brown sugar deliciousness.

Along with samples as you can probably tell, the service was exceptional. Every step along the way I was told in cool detail about what I was ordering and eating, with some historical tidbits thrown in. Great times.

If it’s the early morning and you’re looking for great service, food with the freshest of local ingredients and a few surprises during the experience then get to Zingerman’s Roadhouse. Time to get back there for dinner again too!

Checkout their website and presence on Facebook. You can also see the range of businesses and foodie deliciousness under the Zingerman’s umbrella.

What is a good place for breakfast and coffee in your neck of the woods or that you’ve come across in your travels?
