Georgia: Tubing on the Chattahoochee River.

A warm summer afternoon day in Georgia on the water with the family, that sounds like a plan! We decided to go tubing on the Chattahoochee River in Gwinnett County around Atlanta. We arrived at $10 River Tubing in Duluth and immediately saw all the tubes.

The various kinds of tubes were inflated and ready to be put to use. You have the option of two, four or six hours out on the Chattahoochee. We chose the two-hour option. We each got the single tube with a solid bottom that came with a life-preserver. I purchased a small waterproof bag to hold my camera between shots.

We took a school-like bus to the river drop off point at Rogers Bridge Park. The end point would be at the Abbotts Bridge boat ramp near home base. Both are Chattahoochee River National Recreation Areas.

It was time to get out on the open river. Good thing we got the tubes with solid bottoms, the water was surprising ice-cold.

Greenery and some blue skies straight ahead. We would have liked for more sun on this day, but you couldn’t beat the warm temperatures.

The river was flowing about one mile an hour, so there was lot’s of relaxing and resting of the eyes time. Had to watch out for those random thick branches sticking out along the shore though.

We had water bottles with us, but kinda of wish we had brought other beverages haha. Another group there rented a separate tube for their cooler .:)

The peacefulness and remote feeling was only interrupted once with the bridge straight ahead and all it’s traffic.

The river was shallow, only a foot or two deep a lot of the time.

The Chattahoochee River starts in northeast Georgia and heads southwest, running along the southern portion of the Georgia/Alabama state line down into Florida. It was cool seeing an interstate like mile marker on the river. Only 335 miles to reach the southern end of the river! That would have taken awhile. 🙂

It was a great afternoon hanging with the family on this stretch of the Chattahoochee River.
