#ElCafeDe2013: Getting the Coffee Flowing in Georgia.

The year of #ElCafeDe2013 has gotten off to a great start in Michigan. It was time to enjoy some coffee in Georgia, with my Georgia coffee partner-in-crime.

The first stop was Gainesville and Inman Perk Coffee. The coffeehouse sits right along the square in the heart of town.

I asked for their most popular drink and they gave me a Dirty Chai with espresso. That was my first ever, boy have I been missing out. A cup of their Brazilian coffee followed. Both beverages were consumed alongside an old-school book.

Lot’s of conversations were ongoing amongst all the artwork and colorfulness throughout. The staff itself was very conversational and friendly. A trip to their other and original location, in the Atlanta neighborhood of Inman Park, is in order.

I’d driven past Boulder Creek Coffee in Buford many times before, but didn’t stop because it looked fairly ordinary on the outside. One day recently though curiosity finely got to us and we were pleasantly surprised.

They open up later than others, catering more to those that like to hangout, work and read alongside their mugs, versus the to-go crowd and paper cups. A very relaxing and quiet atmosphere.

I struck up a conversation with the barista about sports and the Midwest, while enjoying a Colombian Golondrina Pour Over, individually made. It was recommended to get a peanut butter and jelly muffin, but they were out. Next time!

Before leaving, I made sure to checkout the bookstore, Books for Less, that is attached. There is just something about coffee and conversation with lots of books around.

A little more off the main grid is the small historic downtown of Flowery Branch. Right in the heart since 2002 is Common Grounds Coffee Shoppe.

You got that small-town vibe immediately upon entering. Lot’s of people knew each other, every one being friendly.

My drink of choice was a basic latte, which was tasty and came in a colorful mug. 🙂

One of the bosses/owners came up to us and thanked us for visiting, giving us a little history of the coffee shoppe, building and downtown area. I loved checking out the old school brick.

The coffee consumption in Georgia this year got off to a great start. It’s amazing how many quality places there are not just in the big city, but in suburbia, small-towns and beyond. Checkout some highlights of my Michigan coffee consumption so far this year. Hope to see you caffeinated out on the open road haha. 🙂

What coffee houses and cafés would you recommend around Atlanta, Georgia and the southern US?
