Photo of the Week: People Every Which Way in Chicago.

Another trip to Chicago, another trip to The Bean. It was extremely busy this time. I decided to capture everyone underneath taking pictures and interacting with it, with the countless reflections off the sculpture above. People are every which way in Chicago indeed.

Chicago: The Agora Sculptures of Grant Park.

I was walking through the south end of Chicago’s Grant Park along Michigan Avenue on a warm, summer day when I came across all these headless and armless sculptures.

They all form the piece known as Agora which has sat at this location since 2006 on permanent loan from artist Magdalena Abakanowicz and the Polish Ministry of Culture. There are 106 9-foot sculptures to be exact, each made of cast iron.

I saw a lot of people walking around and in-between them. From afar they all look similar, but each is hand-carved and has its own unique characteristics.

Collectively they form what looks like a crowd of people. You’ll notice that some are pointing towards others, while others are pointed away. The word Agora in Greek means meeting place.

Its had mixed reviews, people either loving or hating it.

It was unique and fascinating to me. Walking through the park on this day, it got me thinking about what other sculptures in Chicago I should check out on that next stroll. πŸ™‚

What other outdoor sculptures would you recommend checking out in Chicago?

Photo of the Week: A Chicago Skyline Shot for the Road.

After a great week in Chicago recently I was in a cab to Union Station to head home. I figured I captured it all while in town, including getting lots of skyline shots, so I would just enjoy the ride. Should have known better.

It was rush hour heading towards the station from the south side, when we got caught in a traffic backup going over a bridge on W. Roosevelt Rd. I couldn’t believe the view. Another Chicago skyline shot with the Willis Tower front and center and the train tracks below getting ready to merge as they go towards Union Station.

Gotta keep the camera and/or phone always ready, you never know when a shot will present itself.

Photo of the Week: Chicago Train Ride By The Ballpark.

Whenever on a train, I make sure to grab a window seat and always have the camera ready. I’m also always ready to capture that next ballpark shot.

Heading towards Chicago’s Union Station, I was able to capture this shot of U.S. Cellular Field on the South Side. It’s the home to Major League Baseball’s Chicago White Sox. Chicago, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Detroit, there is just something about being around and in a stadium in the Midwest. πŸ™‚

Chicago: The Wormhole Coffee.

How can a place provide great service, have outstanding specialty coffee, provide a relaxing atmosphere and bring back tons of memories of youth? The Wormhole Coffee in the Wicker Park neighborhood of Chicago does just that.

Chicago - The Wormhole Coffee

It’s my favorite coffeehouse in Chicago. I’ve actually introduced it to two other travel bloggers my last two times there. Leah of Leah Travels and I went there during last months #WindyCityTweetup. Pola of Jetting Around met me there for coffee one morning last week. Both great times. πŸ™‚

The Wormhole Coffee is an indie coffeehouse which opened in 2010. Sci-fi themed, it immediately brings back tons of memories from the 80’s. The first thing you notice way in the back is the Back To The Future Delorean. You’ll find other small Delorean’s throughout. 1.21 gigawatts is what powers the coffeehouse, just kidding!

You can sit and enjoy your coffee right next to the E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial lamp. Relax and “Phone Home”.

Right by the entrance is a bunch of Mogwai’s (Gizmo’s) from the Gremlins. Remember, don’t expose them to too much light or feed them after midnight. πŸ™‚ Any one up for a game on the Nintendo Entertainment System?

I’m not just drawn in by the sci-fi theme, their coffee is beyond outstanding. My go-to drink is the Peanut Butter Koopa Troopa. It’s worth the several hour drive to Chicago all by itself.

The most recent time with Pola I mixed it up and went with the Vanilla Bean Latte, another must get yum.

The register is an iPad, which they give to you to confirm the bill and add a tip. How more nerdy can you get?! Some tasty treats sit underneath the front counter. I resisted, for now anyways lol. They love bikers, giving anyone free drip coffee that walks it with a helmet before 9:00 a.m. Bikers are everywhere in Chicago, but I usually see a lot more of them in the Wicker Park neighborhood.

Checkout Leah’s post, Beguiled In Chicago, for her experience at The Wormhole Coffee. The Honey Bear Latte is on the list for next time.

For great service, coffee, a relaxing atmosphere and the bringing back of memories The Wormhole Coffee needs to be at the top of your Chicago bucket list. Who wants to go with me next time?
