#ElCafeDe2013: The Coffee of Intelligentsia.

On my trip to Chicago this summer, my #ElCafeDe2013 and coffee wanderings took me to two Intelligentsia Coffee & Tea locations within the Windy City.

The first was the Millennium Park coffeebar off East Randolph St.

This location is always beaming with activity. I was there at the crack of dawn so lots of people were grabbing drip coffee and pour over’s on their way to work.

I hung out amongst the post-industrial decor, enjoying a Toarco Jaya Sulawesi Pour Over after the usual routine of capturing my coffee from every angle imaginable. ๐Ÿ™‚

Intelligentsia is a coffee roasting company headquartered in Chicago, with coffee shops also in New York and Los Angeles. It has a cult following and you’ll find it being served and experienced by people everywhere. ๐Ÿ™‚

On another early morning while in Chi-town I hit up the Monadnock coffeebar off West Jackson Boulevard within the South Loop.

This location has the look of an Italian espresso bar and is within the Monadnock building built-in 1891.

This location was not quite as busy so I had the chance to converse with the nice and very knowledgeable baristas as I watched my pour over being made.

Watching my coffee come to life, it made me appreciate the La Tortuga Honduras Pour Over even more.

It was fun checking out multiple Intelligentsia locations while in the city. I hope to get to more the next time I am in town.

#ElCafeDe2013 Coffee tip of the week: Socially Promote!

As a continuation of last weeks tip of the week, if you’ve tried to include some conversation and failed, take to the social channels and…

Tip #12: …socially promote that coffee!

Even if you enjoyed the coffee with friends or struck up conversations with the barista or other coffee drinkers, take to the social channels after the fact to show off that great coffee you just had as I did at Intelligentsia in Chicago the other week.

I’m showing off the place with a photo on Instagram that posts to my Twitter account, including Intelligentsia’s Twitter handle so everyone knows exactly where I was at. Of course if the coffee wasn’t great, I wouldn’t post it being made or sitting right in front me teasing me. That Intelligentsia La Tortuga, Honduras Pour Over yum.

Note: Still exploring the video feature launched on Instagram yesterday. More additions to this tip ahead I’m sure. ๐Ÿ™‚

#ElCafeDe2013 Coffee tip of the Week: Try to Include Some Conversation.

Your going to have a coffee at a non-chain coffee shop which is good in-and-of itself, but it would be made even better if…

Tip #11: … it included some conversation.

If your meeting someone or a group, no worries. If not try to strike up a conversation or small talk with the barista about the place, the coffee selection or try to interact with them as they are making your coffee. I engaged in friendly banter with the barista as he was making my La Tortuga, Honduras Pour Over at Intelligentsia Coffee in Chicago recently.

Once you have your java you could also try to engage your neighbor or others. You never know who you’ll meet and the interesting conversations that could come about.

Coffee at a non-chain coffee shop at home or in travels, outstanding! Speaking of meeting others, there is no one I’d rather share the experience and have a conversation with then my Dad. I look forward to grabbing another cup of coffee with him soon. ๐Ÿ™‚

Happy Father’s Day to my Dad and all the Dad’s out there! ๐Ÿ™‚
