The South Haven Lakeshore By Day.

Up until now I had only been in South Haven, Michigan around sunset. This always made for beautiful and romantic views looking west out into Lake Michigan. On a recent day road trip though I set out to see what the area looked like during the day with the sun shining.

I made the trek towards the shoreline and South Beach just outside of downtown. A recommended place to capture the scene is from up in the hills overlooking everything on Monroe Boulevard. It was time to get out on the open path towards the edge of the hill soon seeing…

…the dunes, brush, beach and the blue, vast Lake Michigan. Off in the distance sat the pier and South Haven South Pierhead Light.

I found myself capturing all of the same photos as before except to sunny skies and daylight. It was great getting a different perspective seeing more of the color of the sand, lighthouse and water. When here at sunset the sky always seems to dominate color-wise. ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyone for a romantic picnic with those views on the sand and sometimes even in the lakes waters?!

Back up top the hill, you’ll find additional romantic opportunities on the park benches lining the street.

It was now time to walk the pier, under and along the catwalk towards the red lighthouse.

On the pier I continuously looking forward and behind. There is just something about walking and hanging out along the lake, with the sound of the water that relaxes you. Not seeing land on the other side makes me think I’m in a place far-far away along the ocean. ๐Ÿ™‚

It was a fun afternoon checking out the South Haven lakeshore for the first time by day. Who knows what time of day, the year and what the weather will be like next time I come this way. Maybe it will give me an additional perspective of this scenic spot.

Checkout the post about my time here at sunset, also detailing more information about the lighthouse, catwalk and area: A Lake Michigan Lighthouse and Sunset in South Haven.

Thinking Romance Walking the Lakeshore in Cleveland.

Every time I’m in Cleveland, usually once a season, I gravitate towards Edgewater Park which sits just west of downtown. This week was no exception. I made a stop there right before sunset on a cold, wintry day. Lake Erie, one of the Great Lakes, was there to greet me front and center. No land as far as the eye can see.

The pier was closed, but makes for a great spot for hanging out, chasing pigeons and soaking in the views in the warmer months. More on this in a moment. ๐Ÿ™‚

I slowly starting walking along the frozen lake, changing my view-point from due north to east. Two things were starting to come into view.

Straight ahead now was an open snowy path and the Cleveland skyline! I was out on the open trail towards downtown.

Due to the amount of snow in the Midwest this season I didn’t get very far as the snow pack was deep. That didn’t stop me from just standing there and taking the scenery in though.

After a little bit it was getting closer to sunset so I turned to the west and was greeted with something beautiful.

Back to the pier, this park makes me smile even more, because it’s where I fell in love with the love of my life. A few years back we were in the initial dating stage, hanging out at the park. She was busy chasing some of the aforementioned pigeons off the pier. I was watching her in action and I thought to myself for the first time, “I am falling in love with this girl”. ๐Ÿ™‚

Now wonder I keep coming back here. It’s not all about travel and scenery at this spot along Lake Erie, but romance too. Happy Valentine’s Day to all!

Are there any memorable parks, trails or spots along the water that you have spent time in around home or in your travels?
