Photo(s) of the Week: A Ludington Lake Michigan Sunset.

A while back I took a day trip over to Ludington in Michigan to capture the sunset. I watched the sun go down into Lake Michigan from Ludington State Park. Brush, sand dunes and other photographers added to the beautiful scenery of the evening.

Photo(s) of the Week: A Punta Gorda Sunset.

Captured a Punta Gorda sunset along the Peace River and Charlotte Harbor in Southwest Florida. Was hanging out at Laishley Park Municipal Marina on a summer evening. The Charlotte Harbor (Barron Collier) Bridge lies straight ahead.

A Lake Michigan Lighthouse and Sunset in South Haven.

Another evening, another stroll over to a lighthouse and Lake Michigan. This time the stop was in South Haven. I arrived at the South Beach right before sunset. What a great spot for a picnic.

My primary motivation for coming here was to checkout the lighthouse and lake. The mix of clouds and sky on this evening, leading to a beautiful sunset, was an added bonus. I walked onto the south pier that ran alongside the beach and headed towards The South Haven South Pierhead Light.

I looked towards the shoreline and beach as I walked.

Others stood on the pier capturing photos as water from the lake waves kept hitting the payment. It was a chilly and windy evening. That just added to the scenery. The path towards the lighthouse took me underneath the catwalk. It is the original catwalk which links the lighthouse to the shore and is one of only four left in Michigan.

I reached the end of the pier and 37-foot high lighthouse. The sky was getting more colorful by the moment.

The current lighthouse became operational in 1903 and a station at this spot dates back to 1872. It marks the entrance to the Black River.

Looking over to the right you can see the north pier light opposite. Another light that looks like a cigarette to me haha.

Doing a 180 there’s the catwalk and behind the sunset lit town.

The sun was almost down. I captured a few more pictures on the pier before heading back onto the beach to watch the sun go below the horizon. The orange colored sky! I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves. πŸ™‚

I got back in my vehicle and headed onto the elevated Monroe Boulevard along the shoreline to capture some pictures from above. It was pretty dark at this point so I turned on the flash. There is South Haven pier and lighthouse off in the distance.

Of course I ran into a park bench in a beautiful, romantic spot.

It was another great evening venture over to Lake Michigan, this time to South Haven. There is just something about lighthouses, the beach and a Lake Michigan sunset! πŸ™‚

You can checkout some of my other Lake Michigan lighthouse explorations:

What are some spots that you’ve loved capturing a sunset from in your travels or around home?

A Pure Michigan Sunset.

Driving in Michigan recently there was something unusual going on. There were few clouds in the sky. Usually during the winter months it’s one cloudy day after another. That leads to not seeing many sunsets. 😦 It was getting closer to sunset and I was near Kensington Metropark in Milford so I decided to stop off and take advantage of the mostly clear sky.

I parked and made the snowy trek down to some piers along Kent Lake within the park. Upon arriving, right in front of me were lot’s of colors and a sunset! πŸ™‚

Being opposite the lake and with lot’s of snow in view made for an enjoyable and scenic experience. I look forward to that next sunset. Who knows where I will capture it from.

Photo of the Week: Chicago Skyline from Lake Michigan.

The Chicago skyline as seen from Lake Michigan at sunset. Absolutely stunning! Was on the open water on a yacht. The gathering was sponsored by Akamai Technologies during the Internet Retailer Conference. I’m not just a traveler, I’m also an Internet, web design and social media geek.

That was my first taste of seeing the city and skyline from the lake and being at sunset just made it all that more remarkable. Captured part of the yacht for effect and also the flash off my camera makes it look like there is a UFO right over the city haha. πŸ™‚

Have you ever been out on Lake Michigan in Chicago? What are your favorite cities to see from the water?
